Education series: Ashley Olsen MSW, LCSW on Ambiguous Grief

Join us at the Bozeman Public Library in the Cottonwood Room.

Ambiguous Grief: the most confusing of all grief

Ambiguous grief develops following an event in which a person is physically present but is psychologically changed.  Conditions such as concussion and brain injury, as well as other significant health-related changes, can lead to a type of loss riddled by a lack of closure, a cycle of hope & defeat, and even sometimes guilt.  The unique nature of ambiguous grief is mourning an expectation, a broken dream, and the memory of the person…yet they are still right there.

Join Ashley Olsen, LCSW, as she helps you to make sense of this type of grief, the neuroscience of why it feels so raw, and the hope of navigating through the unknowns.  Ashley is a Bozeman-based therapist that stumbled upon medical social work over 20+ years ago while in grad school.  She discovered a great curiosity and passion for the psychology of healthcare, while having no idea how this would later impact her, far past her own office doors.  Today, she admits, she never fully knew the true magnitude of ambiguous grief until her own daughter’s journey through brain injury.”
